Sustainable Narrative: Embedding Circular and Regenerative Thinking in the UAE Business LandscapeHow a Dubai-based platform connects ESG integration, circular design and climate accountability to measurable business outcomes
Businesses in the United Arab Emirates operate within one of the region’s most ambitious sustainability agendas. The country has set a net-zero target for 2050 and hosted COP28 in 2023, while organisations face growing expectations around disclosure, resource efficiency and climate accountability. For many, the difficulty lies not in recognising the direction of travel, but in translating it into strategy, operations and credible communication.
Sustainable Narrative, a Dubai-based digital and design platform, works in that gap. It advises businesses across sectors on adopting circular and regenerative principles, integrating ESG into core decision-making, and aligning long-term business models with net zero by 2050 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The Challenge: Linear Models Under Pressure
Many traditional industries continue to depend on non-renewable resources and inefficient production processes, which generate excessive waste and accelerate environmental degradation. These linear models are increasingly exposed to resource constraints, to investor and regulatory scrutiny, and to supply chain risks that extend well beyond a company’s own operations. Scope 3 emissions and supply chain disclosure are a case in point, and an issue Sustainable Narrative addresses directly in its advisory and speaking work across the MENA region.
The same pressures also create opportunity. Organisations that redesign for resource efficiency early can reduce their exposure to volatility while building resilience and long-term value.
The Approach: Circular Design, ESG Integration and Climate Justice
Sustainable Narrative’s methodology begins with a deliberate shift in perspective, summarised in its guiding philosophy:
“Business today from the perspective of tomorrow.”
The organisation takes ideas and concepts from the natural world and converts them into accepted business models. Its focus is on alternative materials, technologies and business models that minimise resource consumption and waste, and on products and services that are more energy-efficient, use renewable resources and carry a reduced carbon footprint.
This rests on a regenerative mindset concerned with the restoration and renewal of existing resources and the creation of sustainable systems. Clients are supported to embed circular principles and the SDGs within their long-term business model planning, so that sustainability informs product development, procurement and operations rather than sitting at the edge of the organisation. ESG integration and climate justice complete the framework, ensuring that environmental ambition is matched by social equity and that the transition is both rigorous and fair.
From Reporting to Strategy
A recurring theme in Sustainable Narrative’s work is the distance between collecting ESG data and acting on it. Reporting frameworks generate substantial information, yet the value lies in what organisations do with it: identifying where material, energy and emissions hotspots sit, deciding where circular redesign will deliver the greatest return, and sequencing investment accordingly. Sustainable Narrative supports clients in making that translation, turning disclosure into a roadmap rather than an end point.
Communication is treated as part of the discipline. Sustainability claims need to be specific, evidenced and proportionate to what has actually been achieved, which is where the platform’s storytelling expertise supports its technical advisory. Credible narratives build stakeholder trust and protect organisations from the reputational risk of overstated environmental claims.
Work Delivered
Since its founding, Sustainable Narrative has built a portfolio that combines advisory, collaboration, education and public advocacy. Its work falls into five areas.
Water, energy and public-sector collaboration
Sustainable Narrative has collaborated on the MBR initiatives’ water conservation work with Suqia and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), linking resource stewardship to community engagement. Its network also includes the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCE), the Supreme Council of Energy and Dubai Tourism.
Global and regional convenings
The organisation has been associated with Expo 2020 Dubai, COP28, Dubai Design Week, the World Green Economy Organization, the Gulf Sustainability Awards 2023 and the World Corporate Summit, placing circular and regenerative thinking within the region’s most visible climate conversations.
Design, fashion and enterprise
In sectors where material choice and end-of-life decisions are made early, Sustainable Narrative has worked with Dubai Design District, in5 Design, Inscape Dubai, Slow Fashion Season, Fashion Forward Dubai, Fashion Revolution UAE, APART, Vida Studio and Re:Urban Studio. Enterprise and innovation collaborators include Al Futtaim Group, Garnier, GrowFish and The Sustainabilist ME.
Education and capacity building
Collaborations with the University of the Arts London, Capital Education Dubai and GEMS Education sit alongside educational sessions, Sustainable Talks and work connected to the Inner Development Goals. Three further programmes are in development: an ESG Champion Certification Program, a Climate Justice in Business Masterclass and an Impact Storytelling Academy. Education is treated as infrastructure for change: organisations and graduates who understand circular principles and ESG expectations are better equipped to apply them.
Awareness and thought leadership
Public campaigns have included Earth Day 2022 under the theme “Invest in Our Planet” and the #OnlyOneEarth initiative. More recently, content developed for London Climate Week 2026 frames ESG as an enterprise operating system, and published thought leadership addresses systems thinking for MENA businesses and sustainability resilience in business leadership. Speaking themes centre on translating ESG reporting data into circular and resilient business strategies.

Leadership
Sustainable Narrative is led by its founder and CEO, Najia Qazi, who works closely with her team to create green solutions, systems and products that last and evolve alongside the industries they serve. Recognised through the 100 Middle East Womenpreneurs initiative, she combines sustainability advisory with conscious storytelling, an approach that treats clear communication as a condition of credible implementation.
Outlook
Sustainable Narrative’s priorities are to scale its educational programmes, deepen its ESG and climate justice advisory, and extend its reach beyond the GCC. The organisations that make the most progress on sustainability are likely to be those that treat it as a design principle rather than a disclosure requirement. That is the proposition Sustainable Narrative brings to the business community: practical, evidence-led and grounded in the belief that the tools for a regenerative economy already exist.
